We finally have some details on Nancy Meyer’s highly anticipated ensemble comedy that was first announced last year. Set to go into production in a few months, we’ve heard that Scarlett Johansson, Owen Wilson and Penelope Cruz have been sought out for roles in the new comedy.
Nancy Meyers first signed on with Netflix in April 2022 to write and direct a new ensemble comedy to be produced by Netflix Studios.
Meyers is the writer, producer and director best known for titles like It’s complicated, soldier Benjamin, and Someone has to concede.
Beyond that initial announcement (which contained no plot information or information), we haven’t had any details on what we can expect from the movie.
We can now reveal several leads Netflix is in talks with and some plot details.
While the title remains untitled for now, we do have a little more information about the movie’s plot:
“A talented young writer/director and a brilliant young producer, they get off to a fantastic start in Hollywood: they meet, fall in love quickly and create hit movies together. Soon enough, the romance fades and the two give up, but when another big career opportunity arises, they team up on a new project with high stakes and two emotionally volatile stars who may test their limits…
As the title suggests, we are listening Scarlett Johansson (marriage story, black widow), Owen Wilson (Loki, starry sky and rabbit hutch), and Penelope Cruz (vanilla heaven, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) are interested in various roles within the project.
We currently hear that the film is planning to start production in May 2023 in Los Angeles. In recent weeks, Meyer posted on his Instagram that she was back on a study lot. It is not clear if that was related to this project.
This won’t be Meyers’ first title for Netflix (technically), as she directed and wrote the so-called «mini-sequel» to father of the brideaired on the Netflix YouTube channel in September 2020.
According to the original Deadline article, a relationship from that part 3 special led to a relationship with Netflix movie director Scott Stuber and this movie deal.
We’ll get a full preview of the upcoming ensemble comedy once we get more confirmations on the cast and when the film’s title is revealed.
