The good results come before the great challenges such as the supply crisis, the increase in the prices of recycled paper and chemical inputs.

“Even so, it will grow in the first 9 months of the year by 1.2% compared to the same period last year, and this, despite the slowdown caused by inflation and the exchange rate”, according to Andi.

Isabel Cristina Riveros, executive director of the Chamber of the Pulp, Paper and Cardboard Industry, assures that the sector «presented a positive behavior in the aforementioned period, and in which it reported a production of 964,569 tons of paper and cardboard, of which of which 560,345 tons corresponded to paper for packaging uses, 213,052 tons to domestic and sanitary paper and 191,172 tons to paper for other uses”.

And he affirms: “By 2023, the most important thing for us will be to maintain and improve our competitiveness, hoping that the balance of consumption and availability will be balanced, and that the Colombian consumer continues to support the national product, which today presents a competitive offer in its quality/cost ratio. Now, this will be achieved to the extent that our inputs, and especially our energy sources, will remain available and at competitive prices”.

In addition, this industry bets on conversion to renewable energy, leveraged by significant investments and innovation strategies, according to Andi.

The idea is to bet on a greener production.

In fact, the Chamber of the Pulp, Paper and Cardboard Industry assures «that some union members advance in the production of packaging for food and other uses from cane cardboard of sugar and the substitution of portfolios from plastic to paper”.

This is done by taking advantage of the pine and eucalyptus bark, and the leftovers from wood treatment plants, to generate cleaner energy in its production and in order to eliminate bleaching chemicals and optimize resources that lead to the reduction of carbon footprint by 4.6% and energy consumption by 18.3%.

«Another great commitment of our industry is to continue actions to support the development and consolidation of the 2018-2038 strategy of commercial forestry plantations, which pursue sustainable production for the future of paper», affirms the executive director of the Chamber of the Pulp, Paper and Cardboard Industry.

And he concludes: “For the 2023 I see as a challenge the reactivation of household demand, the control of macroeconomic variables, and joint action in relation to confidence between the private sector, investment, consumer and government”.
