Honduras’ Grupo Financiero Ficohsa signed an agreement with the United Nations (UN) on Wednesday, January 18 to promote the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs). This news was announced by the institution in Tegucigalpa.

Grupo Ficohsa, in which the majority of its workers are women, has signed an agreement to strengthen its support for gender equality. This was pointed out by the same organization in a statement.

Ficohsa announced an initiative arising from a program called «Win-Win: gender equality is good business«, which is supported by UN Women, the European Union and the ILO.

With the signing of the agreement, Grupo Ficohsa reaffirms its work and dedication to recruiting and stimulating the greatest number of talented people, in addition to promoting economic and social conditions that provide opportunities for women in the region.

The signing ceremony was attended by the UN representative for Honduras, Alice Shackelford, Margarita Bueso on behalf of UN Women and Camilo Atala, President of Grupo Financiero Ficohsa.

Grupo Ficohsa has a high representation of women among its employees, with a percentage of 56% at all levels of the organization in Central America.

Camilo Atala said he is «certain that female empowerment is an aspiration», that «there is much to be done» and that «the gap is enormous».

«But it is clear to me that the time for action, for construction, for opportunities, is today, and cannot wait any longer. That is why it is comforting to see how in Ficohsa more than half of our team are women and every day they are gaining more spaces», emphasized Camilo Atala.
